WorldView-2, a high-resolution, eight-band commercial satellite flying an ITT Exelis-built imaging system, was launched on October 8, 2009 from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Exelis designed and built the high-resolution panchromatic and eight-band multispectral imaging system for WorldView-2, including a highly-accurate 1.1 meter telescope and a second-generation, high-speed digital processing unit, to produce the world's sharpest commercial space imagery.
Exelis has played a significant role in building each of DigitalGlobe's current three-satellite constellation, including WorldView-1, launched in 2007, and QuickBird, which has surpassed its life expectancy and still is delivering superior imagery after more than nine years on orbit.
