Exelis provides system engineering, sustainment, and modernization support for a global array of ground-based radars and optical sensors that perform missile warning, missile defense, and space control mission support to the Air Force Space Command (AFSPC), the US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), and the Air Force Space Surveillance System (AFSSS). The primary objectives of the SENSOR contract are:
- Ensuring tactical warning, assessment and space surveillance. Complexities include worldwide locations; support for phased array and mechanical radars, electro-optical systems, and bi-static radars; and support for multiple computer languages and hardware platforms and extensive software code.
- Supporting integrated system-of-systems development with the Integrated Space Command and Control (ISC2) contractors.
- Executing with flexibility and scalability to sustain existing systems and implement and deliver new capabilities.
As the integrating contractor, Exelis is responsible for ensuring integration of system components and integration with external systems and program. Exelis has a well-developed management system which ensures that technical, cost and schedule targets are achieved. Areas include engineering, system analysis, planning and test integration; data management, system security, and programming support; design, prototyping, testing, refurbishing and upgrading, and modification of hardware and software; and logistics and depot-level maintenance.
Locations include Greenland, United Kingdom, Indian Ocean, Norway, and several US states including Alaska.
