Exelis has gained international recognition for its expertise in providing innovative solutions for smart airborne weapon to pylon interfacing, multiple stores carriage and training systems. This is underpinned by more than 60 years of design, prototype, certification and manufacturing experience of an extensive portfolio of weapons carriage and release equipment. Building on its heritage and experience from the Paveway™ III programme, Exelis developed the entire mechanical and electrical interface system for Enhanced Paveway™ II and III, Storm Shadow and latterly for the UK PGB, Paveway™ IV.
As the design authority for many Class 1 armament systems and with its own in-house life firing weapon drop and environmental test facilities, Exelis is able to undertake any new system development from concept through testing, integration and aircraft trials to in-service support.
Significant and on-going R&D investment enables Exelis to fully embrace the emerging interfacing demands of the smaller smart MIL-STD-1760/MMI weapons and Unmanned Air Systems now entering service. Prime examples of its pioneering technology development include the GEMINI smart universal twin store carrier, SABRE smart lightweight multiple store carrier, GNAT gravity/soft eject lightweight store carriage and release system for up to 220 lb, SPECTER pneumatic lightweight store carriage and release system for up 1000 lb, WASP/HORNET micro store carriage and release system, CRU connector release system, FRCS field replaceable connector system for clean release of smart weapons, MALTS modular advanced lightweight training system for practice bombing capability without the use of pyrotechnics.
In parallel to product growth, Exelis is also rapidly expanding its service capabilities and now provides innovative technical support on an availability basis for UK MoD air armament systems.
