ITT Exelis is a leading provider of command, control and communications systems (C3 Systems) for NASA, the U.S. Air Force and other DoD agencies. We specialize in communications systems engineering; space and range operations; sustaining engineering; space and terrestrial networks; spectrum management; and the operation and management of large, complex, mission critical systems.
Exelis is the prime contractor on NASA’s Space Communications Network Services (SCNS) contract for the Goddard Space Flight Center, which provides most of the communications and tracking services for a wide range of spacecraft, spanning low Earth orbit, to geostationary and even lunar orbit, representing scientific, government, and manned missions. To support these missions Exelis operates and maintains eight Tracking and Data Relay Satellites and fourteen ground systems on a 24x7 basis.
The Deep Space Network (DSN) is an international network of antennas that supports interplanetary robotic spacecraft missions and radio and radar astronomy observations for the exploration of the solar system and the universe. The network also supports selected Earth-orbiting missions. As the prime on this contract, Exelis supports key exploration missions such as the NASA/Joint Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Mars Exploration Rovers and Cassini to Saturn missions. Exelis additionally provides logistics support for DSN facilities in Madrid, Spain and Canberra, Australia.
Exelis provides space ground and range systems engineering, lifecycle sustainment, logistic support, modernization, and operations and maintenance for U.S. military launch, test and training ranges. We support complex mission requirements that cover a broad spectrum of support, from facilities maintenance to reverse engineering of legacy systems. Key areas include system engineering, sustainment, logistic/supply, depot maintenance, software engineering and configuration management for range instrumentation such as tracking, telemetry, optical, weather, communications and command and control networks/systems. We also provide payload processing and launch services for numerous government agencies. These key systems/assets are critical to the launch range and space communications network infrastructures, including the world’s largest air, land and sea training range for the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Air Force space launch ranges on the U.S. East and West Coasts and NASA’s space ground communications. Key contracts include the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF); Spacelift Range System (SLRS); Spaceport Systems International (SSI); Systems Engineering and Sustainment Integrator (SENSOR); Wallops Flight Facility Range Operations Contract (ROC); and Wideband Satellite Communications Operations and Technical Support (WSOTS).
Exelis is the prime contractor for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Spectrum Center’s (JSC) Electromagnetic Spectrum Engineering Services contract, where we provide engineering systems support and technical analysis, as well as long-term strategic planning, to ensure the JSC meets national security and military objectives related to the use of electromagnetic spectrum. As an increasing number of users vie for access to the limited radio frequency spectrum, Exelis provides critical support to the DoD by assessing spectrum relocation impacts and providing the technical analysis to support policy decisions.
