FORT WAYNE, Ind., Oct. 11, 2011 — ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) has developed a commercial-based secure smartphone and secure tablet designed for use by the Department of Defense and other government agencies.
ITT’s secure GhostRider smartphone and secure GhostWarrior tablet design objective is to be used and approved for secret-and-below (SAB) applications using commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware combined with ITT’s NSA certified secure network processor.
Current commercial smartphones have the benefits, features and capabilities desired by DoD users but lack the level of security required to protect secret and below information. However, ITT’s commercial-based products are integrated and modified with our secure processor technology while maintaining the benefits, features and ease-of-use of a traditional commercial smartphone.
ITT is able to maximize the benefits of both the commercial phone/ tablet and a DoD level of security by using an information assurance technology solution that is flexible and portable in today’s ever-changing commercial smartphone/tablet market. This is done through ITT’s recently NSA certified secure network processor for secret and below usages. This new secure processor has significant SWAP-C (size, weight, power and cost) advantages while providing information assurance at the DoD SAB level that can easily fit into a COTS smartphone/tablet targeted for most of DoD and federal government uses
“Our ability to offer a COTS-based secure smartphone and a secure tablet at DoD SAB using ITT’s hardware crypto solution gives our customers a communication capability and security that is proven, trusted and flexible to meet the challenge of their demanding environment,” said Ken Peterman, ITT Communication and Force Protection Systems president.
GhostRider was developed in mid-2010 with proof-of-concept models shipped to the government in February 2011. GhostWarrior is a 2011 development activity with proof-of-concept models scheduled to be delivered in late 2011. Engineering work for these products is ongoing in ITT Electronic Systems’ Tempe, Ariz., facility while manufacturing is conducted in the Fort Wayne, Ind., facility.
