FORT WAYNE, Ind., Oct. 11, 2011 — The Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Joint Program Executive Office has certified ITT Corp.’s (NYSE: ITT) Common Core Operating Environment (OE) as compliant with its standards for Software Communications Architecture (SCA) 2.2.2 and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Radios offered for sale into JTRS programs must be compliant with established SCA and API standards or be granted waivers. SCA 2.2.2 represents the most current standard.

The Common Core OE is at the heart of ITT Electronics Systems’ new line of software defined radios (SDR) that includes Soldier Radio, Rifleman Radio and SideHat variants for the US and International SDR markets.

ITT’s OE was certified with no waivers, obtaining the highest degree of compliance. The certification to SCA 2.2.2 is a testament to ITT’s commitment to develop an OE that represents the true vision of a JTRS radio. By developing an OE that adheres to the standards put forth by the JTRS community, the cost of porting SCA compliant Waveforms to ITT radios will be significantly lower than what the JTRS programs have experienced in the past.

ITT’s OE has been used on many generations of ITT JTRS radios spanning ten-plus years prior to being ported to the Common Core hardware. The OE has been used as a development and test platform throughout the lifecycle of the Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW) and JTRS Bowman Waveforms (JBW) which have gone through rigorous testing including Field demonstrations, Field Exercises, Formal Qualification and Design Verification Tests. The OE software running on each radio is common, maximizing reuse and minimizing the cost of maintaining the software across the different products. Great care was taken during development to ensure stability of the radios while meeting the performance requirements of each waveform running on the OE.

“This certification satisfies a key requirement for radio acquisition,” said Dave Prater, vice president of the Networked Communications business area team. “The use of a common core OE
and common hardware across ITT’s SDR product line streamlines the introduction of new products, new features and new capabilities. The stable OE and strict compliance with the SCA standard ensures ITT radios are readily compatible with SCA-compliant waveform applications, allowing significant savings in both cost and schedule.”
