Panama City, Fla., Nov. 8, 2011 - ITT Exelis (NYSE: XLS) broke ground Tuesday on a new 105,000-square-foot facility. The Panama City business has grown significantly since it began in 2005, starting with five employees and employing nearly 100 people today.

“This new facility consolidates three locations into one and significantly improves our operation’s efficiency,” said Rich Sorelle, vice president and general manager of the Exelis Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems business area. “With the large size of our products, this new building will allow us to work on multiple systems under one roof to meet our customers’ growing needs.”

The Exelis mine defense business, within the company’s Electronic Systems division, designs, builds and services integrated mine sweeping systems for U.S. and allied navies. These systems rapidly detect and clear underwater mines to protect littoral waters.

Exelis will be the anchor tenant of the new VentureCrossings business park near the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport. A ceremony, attended by Florida Gov. Rick Scott and numerous local officials, marked the occasion.
