HERNDON, Va., May 23, 2012– The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has selected ITT Exelis (NYSE: XLS) Information Systems division to receive the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence in the research and development category. The award recognizes large prime contractors that have excelled in their use of small businesses as suppliers and subcontractors. 

“Over the past 10 years, the Exelis Information Systems team has consistently demonstrated a commitment to support small business subcontracting and mentoring,” said Dan Hannaher, SBA Region VIII Administrator. “Exelis represents how corporate America can effectively partner with small business to match their customer’s demands with quality products and services.”

Exelis Information Systems President Mike Wilson accepted the award from SBA Administrator Karen Mills at a National Small Business Week ceremony on May 22, 2012, in Washington, D.C. National Small Business Week recognizes outstanding small business owners and advocates for their achievements and contributions to the nation’s economic and social vitality.

Among thousands of large firms who sub-contract with small businesses, only a small percentage are recognized during Small Business Week. Since 2009, the SBA and the Defense Contract Management Agency have recognized the Exelis small business subcontracting program with the highest possible rating of “Outstanding.”
